The graded classes are designed for children based on the 5C guidelines (Communication, Culture, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities), to help them learn listening, speaking, reading and writing in traditional Chinese characters, phonics (i.e. Bopomofo), Pinyin, and Computer Input Method. Cultural curriculum are also provided to introduce the students to both traditional and modern Chinese cultures.

This class is offered to 4-year-old children or students who don't speak Mandarin at all. Through singing, dialog and drawing, this class provides youngsters a fun and immersive learning environment.
適合四歲或是不會說中文的學生。經由唱遊、說話、繪畫,小小班提供幼童們一個有趣的中文聽與說的環境。
This class is offered to 5-year or older children with basic Chinese conversation ability. Students learn Chinese traditional phonics, i.e. Bopomofo, and strengthen word pronunciation.
適合五歲以上並具基礎中文會話能力的學生。基礎班的學生先學習認識及書寫注音符號,之後學注音拼音。
Learn to read/write traditional Chinese characters, assemble Chinese words into sentences, and compose essays with paragraphs.
Listening with understanding, speaking with efficiency, reading with comprehension and writing with communication are emphasized equally in the curriculum.
各年級配合5C課綱,循序漸進培養聽的能力,訓練說話溝通能力,透過閱讀增加中文、字彙詞語,正確使用中文去描寫事物,由淺入深,奠定中文基礎能力。並透過文化課程及學藝活動,寓教於樂,由節慶、食、衣、住、行、育樂,體驗中華文化之美。
Portland Chinese School is the first College Board Certified Chinese Advanced Placement program in the great Northwest. The AP program at PCS was instituted in 2007 and we currently have three (3) College-Board certified AP teachers. This is a Chinese immersion program for 9-12th grade students and the course credits can be transferred to regular high schools (up to GPA 5.0) or universities. Our goal is to help the students learn to understand and appreciate Chinese literature and to express their ideas and thoughts by applying the phrases they have learned. This will indirectly promote the traditional Chinese Culture, and in turn connect students to the history and languages of the eastern and western cultures.
本校傳統班九至十二年級課程為經美國大學委員會(College Board)審核認可的大學先修課程,學分為一般高中(GPA最高5.0)及大學學分。課程內容完全使用中文教學, 教學目標在於訓練學生對中國文學的理解及欣賞、引申內容含義和詞語的自我表達,及提升對中華傳統文化的認知, 進而連結東、西文化歷史和語言。
Speech contest, dictionary look-up contest, composition contest, field day and Chinese festival celebrations are also included to enrich our curriculum.
