Parent Volunteer Program
The Credit Point System (An Honor System)
The school has carried out the credit point system for
couple of years. It has make the school function
smoothly in various aspects.
Please continue your effort by doing the following:
1. Please sign up for various volunteer
positions ahead of time.
2. On the day you show up to be on-duty,
please arrive at the registration table to sign in at the
appropriate sign-in sheet on the clipboard.. There are clipboards
holding Sheet A, B and C. Sheet A will be labeled "For Room Parents
to sign in – 3 credits given". Sheet B will
contain various labeled sections "For the Bell Ringer, Corridor Safety
Patrols, Exits' Guards and Road Safety Patrols to sign in –
2 credits given". Sheet C will be labeled "For helpers of all
other types of activities to sign in – 1 credit per
hour". For example, if you help in different activities like the
Chinese New Year Celebration, Speech Contest etc., or if you record cassette
tapes for your classroom teacher, then this Sheet C is for you to sign
in. Lastly, if you help in the library, please arrive at the library
to sign in at a clipboard there. This clipboard is
kept by the librarian. It contains Sheet D labeled "For librarian
assistants to sign in – 2 credits given".
Regardless of which sheet you sign in, you need to provide us with your family
code. Chinese and English charts will be taped onto the front and back of
the board of each clipboard for you to look up your own family code.
At the end of each school day, the
staff will collect Sheets A, B, C and D to update the cumulative no. of credits
for each family on a master record. This master record and all
those Sheets A, B, C, and D will be displayed in a binder at the registration
table for the parents to refer to anytime. When registration for the
following semester comes, the school will refund the deposit according to what
the master record indicates. If a family performs more than 10 credits of
volunteer work in a single semester, the extra credits will be automatically
carried over into the following semester.
Duty List for Class Representatives
Two class representatives (or class reps) are
elected for each class during the class meetings on the first day of
school. They serve their class for one school year. Each semester,
a class rep receives 10 credits. The class reps coordinate
the volunteer activities within the class and contact parent
volunteers. Basically, a volunteer receives 1 credit for each
hour of volunteer work.
Class reps have to:
(1)
Assist the teacher in arranging the snack schedule. It is usually up to the class to decide whether
to provide snack or not. Usually the parent who is scheduled to bring the
snack is also required to stay in the classroom as an on-duty room
parent. A room parent receives 3 credits. A room parent can
help out the teachers in the following ways: keep the children in order,
correct assignments, borrow/return equipments and collect/hand out assignments
and materials. After roll-call, if the teacher finds out that there are
more attending students than the registered list of students, the room parent
has to hand in the names of those unregistered students to the on-duty
administrative staff members. After school is over, room parent has to
check around the room and direct the students to clean up.
(2)
Call up the on-duty room parent two days
ahead of class to remind her to bring snack and to be on
duty. If the room parent says she won't be able to make it, then the
class rep has to contact other parents to find someone to switch schedule with
her.
(3)
Manpower needs and plan for the class
whenever the school requires all classes to participate in certain
functions. (Please consult the administrative staff members when
planning.)
(4)
Call and notify all parents in the class
in the following situations:
a. Administrative staff members calling to notify the
class reps that school is canceled due to snow day.
b. Parent Representative calling to notify the class
reps that there is an upcoming parents’
meeting.
c. Any other emergency situations.
(5)
Collect class fund if there is the need
for one. The class fund is strictly for class use.
Class reps keep charge of the money and record all income and
expense. At the end of the school year, a written report of
the income/expense has to be given to the parents. In the case of
parents not being scheduled to bring snack or forgetting to bring snack,
please let the class decide whether money should be collected from those
parents to be deposited in class fund or not.
We staff would like to extend
heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers for your time and hard work!
